  • Make golf a fun, safe and positive experience.
  • Help girls to gain and reduce their handicap as well as encouraging them to join a Golf Club.
  • Develop our golfing talent to allow them to compete in Junior matches and competitions and represent Berkshire in county events.

Berkshire Girls Golf has a Talent Patchway to coach and provide support for girls from beginners to those on single figure handicaps and covering all stages in-between.  We aim to give supported access to high quality coaching, competition and development to suit their talent, skill level and experience.  The coaching is structured and all aspects of playing golf are explored.

For 2023 we will be offering subsidised coaching at 3 levels:

  • Level 1 for Beginners
  • Level 2 for Developing Golfers
  • Level 3 for Experienced Players

Some clubs within Berkshire are also likely to be offering a GirlsGolfRocks programme which is primarily aimed at beginners or girls who may be new to golf.  Check the link on this page for more details.

All BGG coaching is provided by experienced PGA Professionals at local clubs.  We would actively encourage girls to join up at the start of the golfing season for the full programme, but it will be possible to join courses during the season as long as there are places available.

Level 1 Beginners Programme

This course is aimed at girls who are fairly new to golf and who may not yet be a member of a golf club.  The programme will introduce them to the basics of the game such as understanding the basic set up, how different clubs launch and the distances they send the ball, as well as a brief introduction to the Rules and Etiquette of the game.  The course will comprise six sessions of 2-hours each.  Maximum of 8 girls.

The girls will be encouraged to play in the BGG Fun competitions – and once they have a handicap index of 44.0 or better, the BGG competitions.  To gain an official golf handicap, girls will need to become members of an England Golf affiliated golf club. Many golf clubs offer special junior membership rates.

Level 2 Development Programme

This is for girls who already understand the basics of the game and who are regularly scoring under 95.  This will build on their existing knowledge and help them develop their own analysis by understanding weaknesses and strengths and beginning to keep and use playing stats.  There will six 3-hour sessions and one full skills day.  Maximum of 8 girls.

Girls will be encouraged to play in BGG competitions. Dates for competitions can be found on this website. Parents will also be informed of competition dates by email.

Level 3 Performance Programme

This is for girls who are already skilful and experienced but who wish to progress further; they are likely to be scoring regularly in the low 80s and below.  The programme will show them how to use stats and build this into practice routines, learn to understand their own swings and learn how to cope with pressure.  There will be six 3-hour sessions and one full day.  Maximum of 8 girls.

The Level 2 & 3 programmes will take place at Mill Ride Golf Club and Level 1 will be at Sand Martins Golf Club.  All programmes will make use of the driving ranges, practice facilities and golf courses of the venues.

Fun Competitions: BGG Fun Events

BGG Fun Competitions are run (mostly in the holidays) for pre-handicap and high handicap players. These are played over 9 holes and mainly on short courses although some give the opportunity to put in a card for handicap assessment. These fun occasions make the important link between practice sessions on the range and actually playing golf and are considered to be a valuable addition to our coaching scheme.
