WELCOME TO BWG!

Our centenary year has been a great time for reflection and celebration, and whilst the term “ladies” was the norm in 1923 we believe 2024 is the right time to adopt more modern and progressive language.  Some will recall the ‘ELGA – England Ladies Golf Association became EWGA quite some time prior to the merger with EGU to become England Golf in 2012.

The R & A, England Golf, Wales Golf and Scottish Golf all use the term “women”.  Additionally, a number of county ladies golf associations and golf clubs have either changed or are in the process of changing from “ladies” to “women”, including Cambridgeshire, Devon, Hertfordshire, Kent, Lincolnshire and Surrey.

At the AGM, the meeting took the momentous decision to rename the County and become Berkshire Women’s Golf.

We are in the slow process of moving over to the new name, so for the time being you will see a mixture of BCLGA and BWG through the website.

Regardless of this name change Berkshire is about women’s and girls golf from beginners to elite.

Whether you are new to golf, a low handicap player or somewhere in between, this website will give you everything you need to know about women’s and girl’s golf in Berkshire.

We invite you to visit the different sections of this website to learn more about BWG, enter competitions, download start sheets, follow the teams, and generally keep up to date with news and results.

We also invite you to visit the sections run by our associated groups, the Scratch Leagues, the Berkshire County Ladies Veterans Golf Association (BCLVGA) and the Berkshire Lady Captains Golf Society (BLCGS).

ABOUT BWG!

As a County Golf association we are part of the wider structure linking golfers and clubs to England Golf – the umbrella organisation responsible for men’s and women’s golf at regional and national level in England.

BWG and Berkshire Girls Golf (BGG – the junior section of BWG) are run by Committees of Volunteers with the aim of promoting golf for women and girls from beginners right through to elite players. The County organises a Calendar of Events each year: these include competitions for members of Golf Clubs affiliated to BWG and matches for 1st Team, 2nd Team, Seniors Team and Juniors Team players.

The highlight of the year is County Week in June, when the 1st teams of the six counties of our Midlands South region (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and the ‘joint’ county of Worcester &Hereford battle it out over three days of foursomes and singles matchplay golf, providing a wonderful spectator opportunity for golf fans.
